Statement by Daniele Basso
“It is an authentic privilege for me, for which I am grateful - comments Daniele Basso - to have been chosen to interpret the values of CAI Biella in the 150th year of its birth. A historic event for Biella as a Unesco Creative City after its appointment as an Alpine City in 2021. A new monument, usable by all thanks to the Sella family and Federico Sella, which brings "the mountain and its culture" back to the center of attention and makes us reflect on how to act personally to "safeguard such a delicate and extraordinary ecosystem". The symbol of a unique community, which recognizes the mountain as a strategic resource, in the economic, cultural and social fields, for the future development of our wonderful territory."
"Quintino is the name of the work - continues the artist - and it represents a child who dreams while exploring the magical border between heaven and earth in the profile of Mucrone. A dream that becomes a community, the CAI, which recognizes its identity in the mountains. People united in passion, who are committed to living and defending the values that the mountains teach. A continuous and tireless work of collaboration and participation, which is tangibly expressed in the dimension of the incompleteness of the sculpture, which induces us to activate the imagination and transforms us from observers into interpreters of its thousand meanings and teachings. A work in progress, like our experiences, to look beyond the superfluous, to the root of things, and build a better future to live in".
